East Sac Middle School FFA Sends Three Teams to State

On Thursday, April 14th, 2011, the East Sac Middle School FFA participated in two Career Development Events (CDE’s) at HyVee Hall in Des Moines during the State FFA Leadership Conference.

Two teams advanced from district competition to participate in the Ag CSI Leadership Event. This event challenges middle school FFA members to explore the diverse career options in the field of agriculture. Ag CSI also challenges students to think creatively to develop solutions to future ag-related issues. The team consisting of Aubrey Houska, Nicole Huser, Jaylynn Peters, Megan Pickhinke, Sarah Stark, and Brandy Wright received a silver award and placed 4th overall. The team consisting of Morgan Ackerman, Quentin Ackerman, Riley Paysen, Brian Frederick, Samantha Cromwell, Cassidy Hudson, and Tyler Bobenmoyer received a bronze award and placed 6th overall.

One team advanced from district competition to participate in the Ag Impact Leadership Event. Ag Impact is a Career Development Event that challenges Middle School FFA members to explore the importance of agriculture in our state, county, and communities. The team consisting of Brianna Shipman, Taylor Bohm, Andrea Ross, Emma Mortensen, Emilee Drost, and Kylee Stonerook received a silver rating and placed 4th overall.

On Friday following the performances, these members attended the EDGE Conference. EDGE Conference is designed to help all middle school students better understand who they are and where they are heading. The program encourages each participant to interact and to explore his or her common interests with others. All members had a good time participating in many fun activities throughout the day.
