Passed Away - Phyllis Hoefling
Phyllis Hoefling, age 84, of Odebolt, Iowa, died Thursday, March 31, 2011, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2011, at the First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend Mark Volkers will officiate, with burial in the Odebolt Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8 p.m.
Phyllis Lorraine Kimball Hoefling was born to Lathy and Harriet (Goodenow) Kimball on a farm north of Battle Creek, Iowa, on November 28, 1926. She attended country school through the eighth grade, and graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1944. She attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and also attended college at Greeley, Colorado, for one term. Following graduation she taught at Graettinger, Manilla, and Denison.
In 1950, she married Leonard Hoefling and lived on the Hoefling farm until 1976, when they moved to 425 North Main in Odebolt. Two children, Patrick and Katherine, were born to this union. Phyllis has 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Phyllis was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was active in all segments of the church. She belonged to Odebolt Eastern Star, Past Matrons, Odebolt Women's Club, and ISIS.
Her favorite pastimes were quilting and reading. She made quilts for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, Freedom Quilts, St. Luke's Neo-natal Babies, Vets in Omaha, and sent many quilts with Dr. Steven Meyer to Africa.
Phyllis took many interesting trips with family, Emerald Club, and Goodenow Association. She worked for several area businesses, the Odebolt Nursing Home, Odebolt-Arthur School, as well as in many private homes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; her parents; Leonard's parents; a brother and his wife, Russell and Berniece Kimball; sisters Mildred Paascke and husband Louie, Marjorie Welsh and husband Richard, and Miriam Colvin; and by a nephew, Steven Colvin.
Survivors include her children, Pat (Ann) Hoefling of Odebolt, and Kathy (Dennis) Sateren of Wisner, NE; grandchildren Joey (Christy) Hoefling, Nancy Diersen, Mike (Gretchen) Hoefling, Mitch (Mistaya) Hoefling, Matt (Brooke) Hoefling, Vicki (Travis) Flink, Janet Hoefling, Heidi Hoefling, Scott Hoefling, Joseph Sateren and fiancée Lacey, and Jabin Sateren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
