Interment: Following the service December 11, 2010 at Ferguson Cemetery, Lake View, Iowa.

Leslie L. Heim, age 70, of Lake View, Iowa, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2010 at Loring Hospital in Sac City. He was born on January 4, 1940 at Lake City, Iowa, the son of Melvin “Bud” Heim and Patricia (Hucka) Heim. He was baptized as an infant at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, rural Sac City. When Leslie was around 17 years old, they moved from Lake City to Sac City where he graduated from Sac City High School in 1959. He continued his education at an automotive school in Omaha, NE. He served in the United States Army Reserves from January 11, 1963 through September 10, 1968.

On July 16, 1983, Leslie and Shirley Drost were united in marriage at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Leslie worked as a mechanic for Rex’s Chevrolet in Odebolt and did mechanic work in Lake View before he started as a custodian for the Lake View/Auburn Schools, where he worked for 27 years, retiring in 2001. He was a substitute bus driver during his time as a custodian and continued to drive the bus until his passing. He loved polishing cars, visiting, talking and telling jokes, cleaning, driving bus, and most of all spending time with his family. He also enjoyed reading, trains, and playing cards with friends every Saturday night. Leslie and Shirley enjoyed traveling and some highlights would include trips to Hawaii, Alaska, Tennessee and the Smokey Mountains. He will always be remembered as a happy, fun loving man, who always had a smile on his face.

Survivors include his wife Shirley of Lake View; daughter Sheryl (Nathan) Sporaa of Madrid, IA and family, Patricia, Maxwell and Zachary; step-children: Becky Schade of Sac City; Bruce (Kathy) Auen of Lake View; Cindy (Bruce) Wright of Council Bluffs; and Brian (Lori) Auen of Brandon, FL; step-grandchildren: Jacob (Sandy) Schade and family, Tori, Aubrey, and Tyler; Brice Schade; E.J. (Alicia) Dougherty and son, Braedan; Robert (Joni) Hansen and family, Samantha and Blayne; Chelsi (Karlton) Hector and daughter, Stella; Chad Auen; Dustin (Amanda) Auen; Cody Auen; and Caiden Auen, Logan, Morgan, and Jake Wright, and Joshua and Alexandrea Auen; other relatives and many friends.

Leslie was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: Doug and Steven; several aunts and uncles; and parents-in-law William and Jo Drost.
