…could start stepping up in 2012
LAKE VIEW, IOWA – DECEMBER 6, 2010
(City administrator’s instructions to the council)
1. At the next council meeting the ordinances will be ready to go.
2. It will be voted on for the next three consecutive meetings, and will then go into effect on March 1, 2011.
3. The garbage, water and sewer rate increase will coincide with the electrical rate increase.
4. Last time an increase as passed, the council tied it to the consumer price index.
- They didn’t figure it was going to be so low.
-- It was 1.1% this time.
- Annual increases need to be larger to maintain to avoid falling behind.
5. The city is looking at an additional 17% in utilities expense for both the water and sewer utilities.
6. Comments and thoughts from the council.
- Foval-North (referring to rate policy discussed with Andrew Ross during the discussion of electrical rate increases) “I like the concept of that rate policy” believes something similar could be applied to the other utilities. Doesn’t think tying rate increases to the CSI creates an amount of money that will make a difference, and seems to be in favor of applying the formula being applied to the electrical rate increase to the other utilities, but is cautious given how high increases would be in the immediate future.
- Laney feels the $4,000 the 1.1% the previous council told the citizens they were going to do isn’t worth it. He seems to be in favor of have a study done for a year instead of piling on rate increases in the other utilities on the same year they are raising the electrical rate by such a large amount.
