Odebolt City Council updated on status of the Odebolt Christmas Party

ODEBOLT, IOWA – NOVEMBER 1, 2010

1. It is a town promotion.
- Is using the city’s tax ID number.
2. Last year was a good year
- Served 305 people.
- Wants to go bigger and better this year.
3. Had a good collection year last year.
- Ended up with $1,974 left in the bank.
-- Made this year easier.
4. Party will be at the community center on December 4, 2010
- Will begin at 11:00AM and finish at 1:00PM.
5. Actors playing Mr. and Mrs. Claus are on board with sacks of treats for the kids.


6. Asks city to pay the $200 rent for the community center.
- Would consider it the city’s portion.
- Fire Department spends more than $300.
7. Got complaints that there were no gifts for the kids.
- Going to try to hold it to under $200.
8. There will be soup and sandwiches.
- Coca-Cola will be providing soda free of charge.


9. Going to change the drawings.
- Last year 25 turkeys were given away.
-- This year they are going to give away Santa bucks and turkeys.
--- Every 5 minutes they will give away either a turkey or some Santa bucks.
10. Santa bucks are redeemable by Odebolt businesses for merchandise only.
- They will be redeemable until February 4 at which point they expire.


10. “I had a bad dream.”
- Chronicle will print Santa bucks on specialty paper to eliminate fraudulent copies.


11. As people come in the door they can have all the food and soda they want, but if they want to get a ticket for the drawing, they have to bring food for the food pantry.
- A minimum donation of $2.00 will be considered equivalent to a food donation.
12. The grand finale prize will be a television.
13. Has gotten 70 slots for two days advertising Christmas in Odebolt.
- KAYL will be broadcasting live from the party.
- The truck will be in front of the community building blaring Christmas music.


14. School k-5 children will make posters for area business windows.
- There will be a $15.00 first, $10.00 second, and $5.00 third prize in each age group.
-- Judged by teachers.
- School will send notes home with children reminding them to come to the party.

15. Has spent about $3,100 this year.
16. Reiterates point of Santa bucks.
17. It is suggested Bill contacts KMEG and try to get on the “Around Siouxland” show.
18. Will name sponsors on the air during the live broadcast.
