Odebolt City Council talks about methods for making the town look better

…discussion expands into how to get community support, how to stimulate housing market

ODEBOLT, IOWA – NOVEMBER 1, 2010

1. Presentation of plan by Region XII Council of Governments representative about housing rehab

2. Citizen input on coming up with community support for housing rehab.
- Feels that someone should start doing direct contact with businesses and citizens to get the ball rolling.
- About 77 people participated in doing the park. Those people are obviously concerned about how the town looks and those people might be ripe for helping to support this project as well.

3. Thinks local realtors are poor.
- Not helping people get homes ready for sale, just listing them.

4. Odebolt Betterment Committee should get involved.
- Not just financially.
5. Council has talked about doing housing rehab in the past but couldn’t get community support.
6. If a citizen or the council pledges money and there are only a couple of takers, is the excess money forfeit?
- Clerk will look into it.
7. Surveys to be sent out to everyone in town to see if anyone is interested in participating in housing rehab.

8. Is there anything we want to propose tonight?
- How many zeros are you talking?
-- City is willing to apply for 8 – 10 projects and the city is willing to commit $1,500 support per project with a serious commitment to find like support from area businesses.
