Arlynn “Archie” Dean Schug, age 77, of Denison and Lake View, IA, formerly of Ida Grove, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Archie was born on June 29, 1933, in Ida Grove, IA, to parents Erwin and Zelma (Will) Schug. He grew up in the Ida Grove area attending Grant Township Country School. He was confirmed into the Trinity Lutheran Church in 1942, also in Grant Township. He graduated with the class of 1951 from Ida Grove High School, and joined the U.S. Air Force in February of 1952. Archie married Margaret Ann Zimmerman in 1953 and together they had six children: Christy, Carmen, Mark, Charles, Kathy, and Steven. They were later divorced and he was remarried to Patricia Nelson in May, 2004.

Archie was a “busy guy” and was always active doing something. He farmed his entire life, was a salesman for Pioneer and Garst Seed Companies and drove truck for Jan Hewitt and Midwest Industries. He served as County Supervisor and was a Field Assessor for Ida County for 34 years. He fulfilled many civic duties as well including serving as a member of the Ida County REC Board, Hospital Board, member of the Ambulance Service, American Legion Post #61, and was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and could often be found dancing, golfing, playing cards, driving truck, or just enjoying life of the farm. Archie and Pat loved spending winters in Tucson, Arizona where he enjoyed riding around in the desert with his friends in their jeeps. He will be dearly missed by many that knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Patricia; his children: Christy (Doug) Walsh of Topeka, KS, Carmen (Frank) Morehouse of Taunton, MA, Mark Schug of East Hampton, NY, Charles (Jan) Schug of Ida Grove, IA, Kathy (Bill) Stehr of Odebolt, IA, and Steven (Nancy) Schug of Ida Grove, IA; step-children: Jeff (Penny) Nelson of Harlan, IA, and Scott (Katie) Nelson of Mason City, IA; grandchildren: Gregory, Catherine, Thomas and Andrew Morehouse, Cody (Megan), Brandy, Brady and Casey Schug, Michael (Kimberly), Mathew, Brian (Heather), Bradley (Alisha) Stehr, and Clint, Levi and Zane Schug; step-grandchildren: Shelby, Alex, Jacob and Blake Nelson; great-grandchildren: Gavin, Tate, Wyatt and Logan Stehr; sisters: Fleurine (Wayne) Drenkhahn of Mesa, AZ, Janice (Bill) Owen of Apache Junction, AZ, and Cheryl (Bob) Preul, of The Open Road; aunt Velda Pierson of Minnesota; and mother-in-law Ruth Ridge of Harlan, IA; many extended family members and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Erwin and Zelma.
