Robert Cahill Johnson was born on October 3, 1912, in Elm Grove Township, Calhoun County, Iowa to George F. and Mary Rose (Cahill) Johnson. His parents lived in Elm Grove Township and Coon Valley Township in Sac County where Robert attended Coon Valley Country School and Auburn High School graduating in 1929. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City.

On December 31, 1935, Bob was united in marriage to his life long friend, Ruth Velma McCollum at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Auburn. This union was blessed with four children: Janice, Richard, Jerry and Larry. They made their home near Sac City where Bob farmed. He operated the Johnson Jersey Dairy Farm from 1933-1946 and put in the Fisherman’s Pond in 1952 on his farm.

Bob was quite the handyman, creating woodworking projects, tinkering in the shop, and inventing things. He enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles and playing cards and cribbage. Bob was blessed by his loving family; he enjoyed their visits and cherished all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was so proud to be a great-great-grandfather. Many people remember when Bob and Ruth would walk to the Villager, always together, never separate. He will be dearly missed.

Bob passed away at the age of 98, on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Loring Hospital in Sac City. Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Ruth Johnson; daughter Janice (Richard) Larsen of Sac City; three sons: Richard D. (Terri) Johnson of The Villages, FL, Jerry F.
