Kenneth E. Mooney of Sac City passed away at the Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City on August 10, 2010 at the age of 93. Kenneth was born August 18, 1916 in Nemaha, Iowa to Archibald and Flora (Grohe) Mooney. He graduated from the Delaware Consolidated Township in 1934 and then worked on several farms. Kenneth joined the Army September 22, 1942, and served as a medic in World War II. On Christmas day in 1944, he served in the Battle of the Bulge and was always thankful he made it home.
On June 3, 1951 he was united in marriage to Marie Ohden at the Odebolt Presbyterian Church. They farmed their entire life, with the first five years near Nemaha and the remainder north of Sac City. He was a member of the Sac City United Methodist Church, a 66-year member of the American Legion, and received recognition for his Century farm in 1985. Kenneth had fond memories of attending State and County Fairs throughout his life.
He is survived by his two sons, David and daughter-in-law, Donna, of Toddville, and granddaughter, Denise and husband, Travis, of Wilmington, Delaware, and Gordon and daughter-in-law, Margaret, and granddaughters, Kimberly and Kristina, of Sac City; granddaughters, Tina and husband, Clayton, of Waterloo, and Tracey and fiancée, David, of Reinbeck, and great-granddaughter, Brooke Anne, of Waterloo, and several nieces and nephews. He always enjoyed when his beloved sister-in-law, Marian Reaman of Sac City, was mistaken for her identical twin sister, Marie Mooney. This happened often.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Archibald and Flora Mooney; wife Marie; brother, Harold Mooney; several brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
The family would like to thank the Park View Rehabilitation Center and hospice staff for their loving care of Kenneth these last years.
