Visitation: Wednesday, 5-7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. rosary, July 14, 2010 at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View.
Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, 10:30 a.m., July 15, 2010 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wall Lake.
Interment: following the funeral July 15, 2010 at Wall Lake Cemetery.


Dorothy Katherine (Roeder) Drilling, age 95, of Lake View, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View. Dorothy was born on August 5, 1914 in rural Arthur, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Klemm) Roeder. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and graduated from St. Martin’s Catholic High School in Odebolt.


After her marriage to Leo John Drilling on September 15, 1932, at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Odebolt, they farmed in rural Lake View until 1954. They moved into Lake View and Dorothy cooked at the Frozen Frontier Café, Black Hawk Café, and the Spring Lake Country Club.


Dorothy was well known for her baking, especially cinnamon rolls. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, and reading. She was a life-long member of the Kilkare Card Club in Lake View. Church was most important in her life. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and St. Joseph’s Guild in Wall Lake. In her younger years she taught catechism at St. Mary’s in Sac City.


Survivors include her children: Robert (Deloris) Drilling of Lake View, Lawrence (Janice) Drilling of Whittier, CA, Elsie (Marvin) Souder of Lake View, Alice (Leo) Werkmeister of Lake View and Carol (Michael) Flynn of Lake View; 15 grandchildren: Pat, Matt, and Mitch Flynn, Teri Meyer, Traci Hall, and Tami Werkmeister, Dave, Joe, and Jim Souder, Susan Steiger, Dale Drilling, Dawn Zier, Dan Drilling, and Laurie and Bryan Purdy; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. Other survivors include her sisters: Bernadine Hink of Wall Lake and Julia Henry of Corona, CA; daughter-in-law Linda Mohrhauser Drilling; many nieces and nephews; extended family members and friends.


Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leo Drilling; infant daughter Nancy Drilling; son James Drilling; brother Anthony Roeder; grandson Keith Werkmeister; sons-in-law: Marvin Souder and Michael Flynn; and friend and companion John Christian.
