Philip R. Tokheim, age 70, of Schaller, Iowa died March 10, 2010 in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Philip Ray Tokheim was born June 10, 1939 in Algona Iowa, the son of Amos Martin and Elsie (Payne) Tokheim. Philip grew up on a farm outside of Swea City, Iowa. As a young man Phil enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, 4-H and participating in sports. He attended Grant Township High School where he graduated at the top of his class in 1957. Philip continued his education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa before transferring to Iowa State where he graduated in May of 1961 with a degree in Vocational-Agriculture and Science.
After graduation Phil taught Voc-Ag for two years in Manilla, Iowa. In 1963, he moved with his family to Schaller, Iowa where he taught Agriculture Sciences until 1977. After teaching for 17 years, Phil worked in sales before taking up driving coast to coast with Direct Transit, INC., several others and finishing with Schuster Co. He was also very active in Schaller, serving as Mayor from 1980-83. Phil was an established carpenter, working on many homes around Schaller, including building the current family home.
On February 25, 1961, Philip was united in marriage with his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Bartolo in Ledyard, Iowa. Together they were blessed with seven children: Renae, Rita, Sandi, Shane, Darren, Dale and Colin.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mary Ann of Schaller, Iowa; his children: Renae Tokheim (Craig Pyle) of Schaller, Iowa; Rita (Bill) Mulcahy of Dyersville, Iowa; Sandi Barry of Charles City, Iowa; Shane Tokheim of San Antonio, Texas; Darren Tokheim of San Antonio, Texas; Dale (Lesa) Tokheim of Schaller, Iowa; Colin Tokheim of Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandchildren: David (Sasha), Monica and Kate Bloyer; Amanda, Patrick, Austin, Erica and Megan Mulcahy; Tad (Cari), Trent, Stephani and Sarah Barry D Jacob, Tara and Lillie Tokheim; Joseph, Zachary and Jacob Tokheim; great grandchild: Skylar Bloyer; brothers: Virgil (Reva) Tokheim of Swea City, Iowa; Eugene (Barbara) Tokheim of Des Moines, Iowa; William (Caroline) Tokheim of San Antonio, Texas; nieces; nephews; extended family and friends.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Elsie and an infant sister.
