Lotte Erna Zmijewski, age 91, of Odebolt, Iowa, died Monday, July 25, 2011 at her residence. Graveside services will be held Friday, July 29, 2011 at the Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale, Long Island, New York. No visitation or funeral services were held.

Lotte was born on July 30, 1919 in Gera, Germany, the daughter of Herman and Helena Kirst. She attended school through the 8th grade while in Germany. Lotte experienced history firsthand, living in Germany during the Hitler Regime.

In 1954, Lotte was united in marriage to Leopold Michaelis. They enjoyed a marriage for over 17 years until his death in 1971. In 1957, she and Leopold came to the United States and resided in New York, where she made a living as a seamstress and dressmaker.

After moving to the Odebolt area, Lotte was united in marriage to Emil Zmijewski at the Stockholm Township Lutheran Church in Crawford County. Lotte had a great passion for music. She played the organ for a large church and was a concert pianist while living in New York.

Survivors include her stepson: Norbert (Inge) Michaelis of Riverhead, NY; step daughter-in-law: Susanne Michaelis of Lexington, SC; special friend: Bob Carnine of Odebolt, IA, and many extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husbands: Leopold Michaelis and Emil Zmijewski.
