State of Iowa to take over the providing of mental health services. The supervisors are concerned that if they will not have an avenue left to them to pay for some of the local items that the state doesn’t cover. One of the bills proposed will not allow the county to levey for money to take care of the items that are going to be left out.
Right now, the county is collecting the maximum amount of money that it is possible for them to collect. The disparity in the amounts each county is allowed to levey, this could lead to a situation where a Sac County, with fewer mental health ccustomers could end up subsidizing counties that have larger numbers f mental health clients.
The county currently charges less than DHS. Also at issue is where people will go for service. the local DHS contact is in Carroll, Iowa, but if the State choose to serve mental health customers from a regional standpoint, customers could be looking at traveling as far as Sioux City. The point that when the State took over the clerk of court, they raised all the wages so that they would match state scale, and then started laying people off and implementing furlough days.
According to Supervisor Hecht, he county CPC may be kept on to shuffle paperwork.
Supervisors approve the tax suspension.
