Branstad's 0% allowable growth may lead to staff or program reductions at East Sac County School

East Sac County School Superintendent Dr. Fiene responded to a survey of Superintendents in Iowa who were asked about what impact Governor Branstad’s proposal of 0% allowable growth might have. The survey asked what actions our school might consider should the legislature agree with the Governor. The results of the survey can be found here:

Two days ago, the Iowa House indicated that it DOES agree with Governor Branstad.

Unfortunately, the post doesn’t reveal anything about East Sac County School specifically, so TSN caught up with East Sac County Superintendent Dr. Fiene at a recent school board meeting and questioned him more closely about what this action on the Governor’s part may lead to at East Sac County..

Said Fiene, “The reality is, in school finance, it could lead to lots of things. It could lead to a reduction of staff, it could lead to a cut of programs. It could lead to lots of things because you have to balance the budget. Anything’s on the table when finances dictate what’s going to happen. “

According to the Iowa Association of School Boards, allowable growth should be set at a minimum of 6%.
