Memorial Service was at 11:00 a.m. on January 26, 2011 at Bethel Baptist Church in Newell, Iowa
John Richter, age 61, of Newell, Iowa ended his life’s journey on Friday, January 21, 2011 after a four year battle with cancer.

John Ray Richter was born May 30, 1949 in Storm Lake, Iowa the son of Edwin and Lois (Jansen) Richter. Growing up, John attended school in Albert City where he graduated from Albert City – Truesdale High School in 1967. Following high school graduation, John attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake.

On August 31, 1968, John was united in marriage to Robyn Ocheltree at the United Church of Christ in rural Newell. Together, they were blessed with three children: Kelly, Adam, and Kayla.

John served in the Iowa National Guard for six years. John and Robyn were dedicated to farming from 1974 until retirement in 2007. He enjoyed fishing and golfing. John loved woodworking and building furniture for his family. His last project was toy boxes for his grandchildren. He especially enjoyed following his only grandson’s sporting events and having tea parties with his granddaughters. John treasured his family and spending time with them. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Robyn Richter of Newell, Iowa; children: Kelly (Scott) Bundt of Sac City, Iowa; Adam (Shandra) Richter of Sioux City, Iowa; Kayla (Matt) McCarthy of Newell, Iowa; grandchildren: Matt; Kelsey; Abbey; Halee; Emma; Beau; and Ava; brothers: Jerry (Ruth) Richter of Newell, Iowa; David (Susan) Richter of Council Bluffs, Iowa; nieces; nephews; extended family and many friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Jeff Richter.
