Passed Away - Richard "Dick" Cordes

Richard "Dick" Cordes, age 73, of Odebolt, Iowa, died at his home on Sunday, December 12, 2010.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 16, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt, Iowa, with The Reverend Mark Volkers officiating. The family will greet friends at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Odebolt on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m.

Born February 15, 1937, in Villisca, Iowa, Richard Byron Cordes was the son of Maurice and Gertrude (Stark) Cordes. He attended country school, then graduated from Villisca High School in 1955. Dick earned his BS degree in Farm Operations from Iowa State University in 1960.

On August 23, 1959, he was united in marriage to Roberta "Bobbe" Cordes in Indianola, Iowa. The couple was blessed with two children, Rick and Michelle.

Dick worked as a feed lot manager in Illinois for a number of years before moving to Odebolt in 1972. He was employed at Shinrone Farms for a time, then branched into sales, eventually working for ConAgra until retiring in 2001.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbe; two children, Rick (Paula) Cordes of Des Moines, and Dr. Michelle (Joe) Duddy of New Egypt, NJ; a granddaughter, Jacqueline (Pete) Esposito; a great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Esposito; two sisters, Alyce McFarland of Chicago, IL, and Marjorie Wehrkamp of Bedford, IA; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kathleen Morrow.
