Mavis was born on July 26, 1953, in Ida Grove, IA, to Royal A. and Betty (Nellis) Miller. She was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Ida Grove. She graduated from Ida Grove High School. When she was 19 years old the family moved to Houston, TX, and lived there a short time, moving back to Ida Grove, and to Sac City in 1985.

On July 12, 1985, Mavis was united in marriage to James Weisenborn in Sac City. This union was blessed with three children: Kathryn Sue, Amy Marie, and Christopher James. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid.

She was a wonderful wife and mother who had a passion for many things including painting houses, reading, listening to country music, collecting dolls, decorating, shopping, and traveling to different parts of Iowa. She adored her children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Mavis was a kind person, full of life, and had a bubbly personality that will be remembered by all who knew and loved her. She was a homemaker all her life, caring for her family as they grew and started families of their own. She drove a pilot car for Gus Construction out of Casey, IA.

Survivors include her husband, James of Lake View; daughters Kathryn Lesser of Cedar Rapids and Amy Weisenborn of Des Moines; son Christopher Weisenborn of Council Bluffs; three grandchildren: LaShon Lesser and Amari and Aiyanna Gervin all of Cedar Rapids; mother-in-law Bonita Weisenborn of Sac City; brothers: Roger Miller of Campbell, NY, LeRoy (Brenda) Miller of Cherokee, Jesse Miller, and Rolla (Janie) Miller of Charlottesville, VA; sisters: Rebecca (Ed) Peters of Lake View, Mary Ann Foster of Wisconsin Dells, and JoAnn Miller of Norfolk, NE; and many extended family members.
