East Sac County school board puts off switching to more expensive cleaning products

SAC CITY, IOWA – OCTOBER 18, 2010

According to East Sac County Superintendent Fiene, the legislature has decided that in the next year and a half to two years schools will be required to get their cleaning products from an approved list of “green” products. He also said that If they would like, the school board can opt out by petitioning the Department of Education.

The school board will at some point be asked to make a decision about participating in this “green cleaning” program, but the Department of Education has asked the schools not to take action at this time because they do not have anyone in charge of taking petitions for opting out.

According to East Sac County School business manager John Kraft, the custodial staff has already tested out some of the products on the approved list. Kraft says that the products are more expensive, but that the custodians are OK with the products they’ve tried.
