Funeral Service Was: 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 03, 2010 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Callender.
Interment Was: June 03, 2010 at Callender Cemetery. Military rites will be performed at the cemetery.


Sherman Lee Martens, 63, of Lytton, IA, passed away Monday, May 31, 2010, at Loring Hospital in Sac City. Sherman was born October 2, 1946, in Fort Dodge. He attended Fort Dodge schools and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1965. He attended Iowa Central Community College in the auto mechanics program.


He served in the U.S. Army's helicopter division as a crew chief and gunner from 1967-1969 during the Vietnam War.


Sherman is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; his three daughters: Ann Grabble, Westminster, CO; Candice Hopkins, Thornton, CO; and Bernadette Saxelby, Flagstaff, AZ; and four grandchildren. Other survivors include his mother Catherine Martens, Fort Dodge; two brothers: Maynard Martens, Las Vegas, NV, and Curtis Martens, Callender; two sisters: Ruth Schossow, Longmont, CO, and Linda Wendell, Fort Dodge; nieces, nephews, and extended family members.


He was preceded in death by his father Henry Martens and his brother Eugene Martens.


In lieu of flowers, memorials will be left to the discretion of the family.
