Dwight Roger Block, age 81, of Nemaha, Iowa, passed away on Monday, June 7, 2010, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.


Dwight was born on August 26, 1928, in Sac City, the son of Wilford and Lena (Rogers) Block. He was a lifelong Nemaha area resident, graduating from Nemaha High School in 1947. He served his country in the United States Army from 1951-1953. He was a member of the Merton V. Hair American Legion Post No. 325 of Nemaha.


On August 12, 1954, Dwight was united in marriage to Maureen Remde in Dunlap, Iowa. They made their home hear Nemaha where Dwight farmed. They were blessed with two children, Alan and Jane. He retired from farming in 1990 and began working for Nemaha Milling. He retired in 2004 from the mill.


Dwight loved to hunt and fish. He began his annual trips to Canada fishing in 1973 and had his first deer-hunting trip to Wyoming in 1963. He treasured these memories.


He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Dwight loved spending time with his family. Survivors include his son, Alan Block of Nemaha; daughter Jane Nelson and husband Ron of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren: Lacee and Kalee Nelson; extended family members and friends. Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, wife Maureen in 2002, and sister Virginia Fethkenher.
