Minutes of the June 15, 2010 Sac County Supervisors Meeting

The Sac County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with all members present, Dean Stock, Chairman, presiding. The minutes of the last meeting were approved as submitted.

It was moved by Hecht and seconded by Bensley to amend the agenda to consider a drainage petition. Ayes all, motion carried.

It was moved by Bensley and seconded by Hecht to approve the agenda as amended. Ayes all, motion carried.

It was moved by Hecht and seconded by Bensley to approve the claims as listed on the claims register in the Auditor’s office. Ayes all, motion carried.

It was moved by Bensley and seconded by Hecht to approve the drainage claims as submitted. Ayes all, motion carried.

After some discussion, it was moved by Hecht and seconded by Bensley to approve the appointment of Renee Roland to second deputy in the Auditor’s office effective July 1, 2010. Ayes all, motion carried.

Two representatives from the Farmers Cooperative approached the Board of Supervisors with a request for a property tax abatement on some new grain storage facilities to be constructed in Boyer Valley Twp. No action was taken.

At 10:30, the Board took up the canvass of the Primary Election held June 8, 2010, and offer the following results on the Democratic ballot: For U.S. Senator, Roxanne Conlin – 134*, Thomas L. Fiegen – 17, Bob Krause – 26; For U.S. Representative, District 5, Mathew Campbell – 133*, Mike Denklau – 39; For Governor, Chet Culver – 139*; For Secretary of State, Michael A. Mauro – 141*, For State Auditor, no candidate; For State Treasurer, Michael Fitzgerald – 150*; For Secretary of Agriculture, Francis Thicke – 135*; For Attorney General, Tom Miller – 154*; For State Representative District 051, Larry Lesle – 37*; For State Representative District 052, Danuta Hutchins – 96*; There were no candidates for County Supervisor, Dist. 2 or 3, County Treasurer, County Recorder or County Attorney. On the Republican ballot: For U.S. Senator, Chuck Grassley – 1423*; For U.S. Representative District 5, Steve King – 1411*; For Governor, Terry E. Branstad – 702*, Rod Roberts – 497, Bob Vander Plaats – 439; For Secretary of State, George S. Eichhorn – 418, Chris Sanger – 234, Matt Schultz – 478*; For State Auditor, David A Vaudt – 1177*; For State Treasurer, James A. Heavens – 399, David D. Jamison – 684*; For Secretary of Agriculture, Bill Northey – 1281*; For Attorney General, Brenna Findley – 1148*; For State Representative District 051, Don Bernholtz – 162, Daniel D. Dirkx – 255*, Joel Pawletzki – 24; For State Representative District 052, Gary Worthan – 859*; For County Supervisors District 2, Rick Hecht – 498*; For County Supervisor District 3, Dean Stock – 611*; For County Treasurer, Vicki Peyton – 1420*; For County Recorder, Nancy Auen – 1432*; For County Attorney, Earl Hardisty – 561, Ben Smith – 1091*.

The Board joined the Calhoun County Board of Supervisors in a conference call to discuss a petition for improvement to Joint DD 2 & 51. Dean Stock served as chairman and Jim Dowling served as secretary. After some explanation of the situation in the joint district, it was moved by Hecht and seconded by Jacobs to direct Kuehl and Payer to do some preliminary investigation on DD 2 & 51 and to review the findings at a joint meeting with landowners at a later date. Ayes all, motion carried. There was no other business for the joint board.

Tom Duncan, ISU Extension Specialist, updated the Board on the Black Hawk Lake Watershed project. Dean Stock will serve as representative of the Board of Supervisors on the Black Hawk Lake Watershed committee.

Dale Kreft, Coon Valley Twp Clerk, advised the Board that the new fire truck for the Auburn Fire Dept was being built and that Coon Valley Twp would need a letter of support from the Board of Supervisors to borrow their share of the money to pay for the fire truck. Mr Kreft assured the Board that Coon Valley Twp had secured an agreement pursuant to Iowa Code Chapter 28E between Coon Valley Twp and the Auburn Fire Dept.

It was moved by Hecht and seconded by Bensley to authorize the Coon Valley Twp Trustees to secure funding through a loan for the Auburn Fire Dept. Ayes all, motion carried.

The County Engineer updated the Board on activities of the county road crews and the status of current maintenance and construction projects.

With there being no further business, on motion, the meeting was adjourned.
