John “Jack” Jerrold Horn, age 76, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Friday, April 23, 2010, at Sioux City Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Jack was born on August 14, 1933, in Mason City, Iowa. His first three years of life were spent in an orphanage (Lutheran Home Finding Society) in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was adopted in the summer of 1936 by his parents Lorenz and Eleanor (Blue) Horn and lived in Webster City. He attended Parochial School through the 7th grade and public school through graduation in 1952. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956 as a radioman on the USS Princeton, participating in the Korean War.


Jack was united in marriage to Eileen M. Longhenry on August 12, 1956 in Webster City. He worked as office and credit manager for Firestone Stores until beginning his banking career in Cherokee, Iowa in 1960. He accepted a position with Sac City State Bank in 1964 as Installment Loan Officer and Insurance Agency Manager until 1975. He became an independent business owner of several businesses between 1975 and 1990 with businesses in Iowa and Colorado.


He was active in the community and church serving as President of the Cherokee Junior Chamber of Commerce, City Council Member (Sac City) two terms, Treasurer of Sac Community School District, member of the Sac City Junior Chamber of Commerce, President of Sac City Kiwanis Club, Vice President of Sac City Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Physicians Recruitment Committee. Jack was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for many years, where he served as treasurer for nine years.


In his spare time he enjoyed wood working, golfing, fishing with family, knife making, and was the “Master Stuffer” at the annual Horn Family Sausagefest and many other activities.


Survivors include his wife, Eileen of Sac City; daughter Lisa Marczewski of Sac City; two sons: Mike and wife Kathy of St. Paul, NE and Doug and wife Michel of Valley Springs, SD; seven grandsons: Ryan (Amber) Horn, Eric Horn, Aaron (Erin) Horn, Chris, Sean, Brian, Scott, and Cam Marczewski; three granddaughters: Nicole Greenwood, Sarah (Dustin) Ahrendt, and Emily Marczewski; three great-grandchildren: Alexa Horn, Kadrin Greenwood, and Greyson Ahrendt; step grandson Michael Plambeck; step granddaughter Jamie Plambeck; extended family members; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
