Iola Eldridge, of Jolley, Iowa, died Monday, April 26, 2010, at Park View Care Center in Sac City, at the age of 96 years, 3 months, and 4 days.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010, at the Jolley Community United Methodist Church in Jolley, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend Marcia F. Sangel will officiate, with burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery, Sac City. Visitation with the family present will be held at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Sac City on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.

Born January 22, 1914, in Sac County, Iowa, Iola Mae Eldridge was the oldest daughter born to Harry and Jessie (Weltzheimer) Penniman. She was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Sac City.

On October 6, 1934, Iola was united in marriage to Miles Marion Eldridge in Sac City. They made their home with Iola's parents, then moved to Nemaha and later bought their farm west of Jolley, where she lived until 2007. Four children, James, Don, Shirley, and Jan, were born to this union.

Iola enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, canning, crocheting, her clubs, and working with the farm animals and doing outside chores. Until the age of 92, she mowed her own lawn. Iola was a member of the Jolley Community United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her children, James Eldridge, Don (Bonnie) Eldridge of Jolley, Shirley (Paul) Heebner of Spencer, and Jan (Tom) Lenz of Sac City; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruby (Bob) Shull of Sac City.

She was preceded in death by her husband Miles in May of 1988; her parents; a sister, Leota (Stub) Olson; a son-in-law, Larry Bogue in 1995; and two great-grandchildren, Collin Helmers and Zackary Eldridge.
