Letter to the Editor - Is Sac City better off without Gary Mahannah?
SAC CIY, IOWA - APRIL 30, 2010
Okay, so I have a question. Taking in to account all of the B.S. that is discussed on this video about "a couple of years ago" this was discussed with the council or that was discussed with the council.......is the City of Sac City better off without the services of Gary Mahannah? I know a lot of people did not like the man, but he knew what he was doing and what was going on. Adam, and Jeff before him, both came in blind and had to learn along the way. Would we have been better off if Gary was still here running the City? I know some will say absolutely not, and yet, I can't help but think of all the turmoil that has been created with two different individuals coming in and trying to get a hold on things and then putting their own personal agendas into the mix as well. Maybe, just maybe, Brian/Breanne Buckley wasn't as good for the City as people thought he was. Food for thought.

4. The idea was tabled until contact with EMT’s can be made to see if this would be helpful .

APRIL 26, 2010 – SAC CITY, IOWA
1. Apparently, scavenging is a problem both on the street and according to CP Gary Hansen, at the landfill.
2. Jim Frederick seems to feel that anyone who has enough gumption to go scavenge through recycle bins at 5 in the morning for nickels should be allowed to do it.
3. According to Scheffler, there is no mess at the curbside bin site as a result of the scavenging that he has seen.

VIDEO – Citizen appears before Sac City Council to request a refund for appliances that were stolen
April 26, 2010
Woman put out appliances during clean-up week.
The city requires that residents purchase stickers for those appliances.
The appliances were stolen from junk pile.
Citizen wants refund.
Council wants her to use stickers next year or sell the stickers.
Councilperson Frohardt points out that there is a letter in the councilperson’s packet with the same problem.
All of the tickets are numbered and committed to the appliances.
When the program was put into place, the thinking was that residents were paying to get rid of the appliance and if it is the city or thieves, the appliance disappeared from the curbs.
If we were to reverse our policy, how much of an administration headache would that cause?
The council once considered not having spring clean-up. It depends on how much money we have.
City loses in the neighborhood of 2 to 3000K providing this service.
It’s an issue this year because steel is worth a lot of money.
This will be on the agenda in the future.
