Helen M. Mentzer, age 91, of Schaller, Iowa died November 16, 2011 at Good Samaritan Home in Holstein.
Helen was born Janauary 24, 1920 at her home in Odebolt, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Mary (Gonnerman) Godbersen. She was a life-time member of the Odebolt Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and was a member of the Presbyterian Women.
Growing up, she attended and graduated from Odebolt Community School.
On February 6, 1944, Helen was united in marriage to Donald Mentzer in the Odebolt Presbyterian Church. Together, they were blessed with four children: Donna, Kenneth, Bruce, and Rick.
Helen enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren, family get-togethers, participating in Bible studies, and gardening. She treasured her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Donna Cedar of Meriden, Iowa; Kenneth (Linda) Mentzer of Holstein, Iowa; Bruce (Jackie) Mentzer of Schaller, Iowa; Rick (Brenda) Mentzer of Schaller, Iowa; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Neil Cedar; Kami (Reggie) Morton and their children, Kylei and Braelin; Kent (Tami) Mentzer and their children, Kale and Ava; Kallie (Matt) Voge and their children, McKenzie and Addison; Sara (Chad) Steinkamp and their children, Josie Ann and Jamison; Mitchell (Jennifer) Mentzer; Ayla (Tim) Ericksen; Alyssa Ringgenberg; Austin Mentzer; and Hallie Mentzer; sisters: Marjorie Thayer of Odebolt, Iowa; Mary Ann Siebrecht of Odebolt, Iowa; Mildred Hartsell of Omaha, Nebraska; extended family and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; son-in-law, Gene Cedar; brothers, William Godbersen and Harold Godbersen; sisters: Tillie Ziegmann, Eleanor Peterson, and Edna Peterson.
