Roger D. Kies, age 73, of Odebolt, IA, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2011, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, IA.

Roger was born on October 7, 1937, in Odebolt, to Carl and Pearl (Obman) Kies. He was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt. He graduated from Odebolt High School in 1955 and Iowa State University with a Bachelors Degree in Agronomy in 1959.

On February 27, 1960, Roger was united in marriage to Caroll Sarchett in Davenport, IA. He served in the United States Army and Reserves from March 1960 through November 1967, earning the rank of Captain. Following his active duty in the Army, they made their home near Odebolt where Roger farmed. He loved to fix things and modified electrical items around the home. He also loved native American artifacts and loved to write poetry and had several of them published.

Survivors include his wife, Caroll, of Odebolt; brother-in-law Wayne Sarchett and wife Marilyn of Concord, CA; and extended family members.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; brother Carl Kies, Jr., and parents-in-law, Alvie and Ardis Sarchett.
