Passed Away - Michael "Rixy" Rix

Michael Robert Rix was born on February 8, 1960, in Sac City, Iowa. Mike was the son of Robert and Drucilla (Herrold) Rix. Mike was raised in Sac City and graduated from Sac Community High School in 1979. On March 22, 1980, Mike was united in marriage to Pamela Sayre at the United Methodist Church. Mike and Pam were blessed with three children, Tyler, Zachary and Brie. After high school, Mike earned his certification in both Wastewater and Water Management and was employed by the City of Sac City for 30 years.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Sac City, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. Pastor Vicki Fisher will officiate, with burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery, Sac City. Visitation with the family present will be held on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Sac City. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Mike's name.

During his lifetime, Mike truly lived life to the fullest. His family and friends will always remember him as an infamous storyteller and as the life of the party. Mike cherished spending quality time with those he loved and was always aware that each day was a gift. He loved taking his family on camping trips to the mountains where they enjoyed the serenity of nature and creating unforgettable memories together. Mike was an avid golfer, fisherman and Green Bay Packer fan. He also enjoyed baseball, and spent many happy hours coaching and umping Little League baseball. In recent years, Mike looked forward to his summer fishing trips to Canada with friends and family.

Mike passed away on June 27, 2011 at the age of 51. His parents and two brothers, David and Dennis, preceded him in death. Mike is survived by his wife Pam; three children, Tyler (Abby) Rix of Bakersfield, CA; Zachary Rix of Sac City; and Brie (Keagan) Struchen of Rockwell City; a grandson, Kaiden; and many extended family members including special cousins Pat Gonzalez, Clark Fort, Greg Fort, and Brian Fort, as well as numerous friends.
