WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a June 17, 2011 press release, Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) issued the following statement upon learning that the Postal Service has made the decision to move all mail processing operations from the Sioux City, IA Processing & Distribution Facility (P&DF) to the Sioux Falls Processing & Distribution Center (P&DC) in Sioux Falls, SD.
“I am nothing short of outraged by this decision – particularly given that it comes just as this area of the state is grappling with a flood and levees are nearly bursting due to rising flood waters,” said Harkin. “I am also concerned that this decision came down before any data upon which this decision was based was made available so that the public and public officials could comment.
“While I strongly believe that we must push for a more cost effective and efficient postal system, this decision is simply misguided and I urge the Postmaster General to change his course on this issue.”
