Dale William Albrecht, age 85, of Wall Lake, IA, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at St. Anthony’s Nursing Home in Carroll, IA. Dale was born on December 3, 1925, one mile north of Wall Lake to Edward and Ella (Kowalke) Albrecht. He attended Wall Lake School and graduated in 1944. Dale was in the Merchant Marines from 1944-1946. On July 11, 1948, Dale married Marjorie (Schroeder) in Odebolt. They have four children: Cynthia, Richard (Dick), Dean and Steven.

Dale and his father were partners in Albrecht Service until Ed’s retirement and then Dale owned and operated the business. In 1959 Dale and his brother Loren started Boyer Valley Fertilizer in Wall Lake. Starting as a retail outlet, Boyer Valley expanded to include a wholesale chemical outlet, serving several states. Loren sold his shares of the business in 1966 and new partners were Jerry Schmitz and Marvin Frank. Boyer Valley was sold in 1985 to ConAgra and Dale then became involved in banking with his sons with several locations in central Iowa. Dale served as Chairman of the Board of City State Bank.

Dale and Marge enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, Iowa State athletics and attending many of their grandchildren’s activities. They wintered in Scottsdale, AZ.

Surviving Dale is Marge, his wife of 63 years; daughter Cynthia Brunson of West Des Moines; Richard (Dick) and Marcy of Wall Lake; Dean and Sara of Carroll; and Steven and Julie of Norwalk. Grandchildren include: John and Mindy Brinker and family Zoe, Gracie, Colton and Ella of Goodyear, AZ; Jeff Brunson of W. Des Moines; Heidi (Albrecht) and Orion Denbeste and children Macy and Morgan of Ankeny; Dave and Holly Albrecht and son Jack of Cumming; Joseph Albrecht of W. Des Moines; Mike and Melissa (Suter) Grossman of Waukee; Abbey and Lexi Albrecht of Carroll; and Carter and Madisyn Albrecht of Norwalk. Other survivors include three sisters: Joyce Wilken of Odebolt; Mavis Suckow of Norwalk; and Bonnie Diepholtz and husband Gene of San Bernadino. CA; brothers-in-law Hilbert (Gus) and Lil Schroeder of Wall Lake, Darrell (Speed) and Thelma Schroeder of Odebolt, Melvin Sommers of Vail and Len Thompson of CA; sisters-in-law Mary Schroeder, Nona Mae O’Connor and Lorraine Albrecht all of Wall Lake; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Ella Albrecht; parents-in-law Frank and Louise Schroeder; brother Loren Albrecht all of Wall Lake; sisters Norma Sommers of Vail and Gloria Thompson of Sacramento, CA; brothers-in-law Eldon Carlson of San Bernadino, CA, Luther Suckow of Norwalk, Clayton Schroeder of Wall Lake, Norman Schroeder and wife Ardis of Odebolt, Bert O’Connor of Sac City and Joe Heidenreich of Wall Lake; and grandson Lukas M. Albrecht of Norwalk.
