Carl Marvin Byriel, age 63, of Lytton, IA, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.
Carl was born on August 15, 1947, in Sac City, IA, to Kenneth and Lorraine (Anderson) Byriel. He was baptized and confirmed at Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church in Lytton where he remained a life-time member. Carl attended school in Lytton and graduated with the Class of 1966. He served his country with honor in the United States Army, with several tours spent in Vietnam during the war from May 1967 through May 1973. He earned the rank of E5, SP5, and was awarded the National Service Medal, Vietnam Combat Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and Aircraft Crewman Badge. Carl was a member of the Hutchinson-Liechty American Legion Post No. 546 of Lytton and V.F.W. Post No. 590 of Sac City.
He worked for Noble Manufacturing in the 70’s as a pressman and then worked at Crop Production Services in agronomy for about 30 years. He retired in September 2010. Carl loved the outdoors; hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a friend of everyone and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his mother, Lorraine Byriel of Lytton; brother Ellis “Red” Byriel and wife Nelma of Lytton; nieces and nephews: Bruce (Tracie) Byriel of Colfax, LA, Bart (Barb) Byriel of Estherville, IA, Brenda (Randy) Martin of Nixa, MO and Bill (Kay) Cates of Lake View; great-nieces and nephews: Brad Joy of Estherville, Cory (Ashley) Joy of Correctionville, IA, Jessica Byriel (Jeremy Jerseritz) of Estherville, Karliegh, Kaden, and Ivy Rose of Estherville, Makenzie and Maverick Joy of Correctionville, and Keaton Jerseritz of Estherville.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Byriel; sister Marilyn Byriel Cates; nephew Brian Byriel and niece Amy Cates.
