Plan to attend Lake View’s 3rd Annual Pelican Festival this Sunday, April 10, 2011.

Start off the day at the Lake View Lion’s Club Omelet Breakfast at the American Legion on Main Street from 8 am to 1 pm. This benefits the Lake View Public Library’s Foundation for the Future renovation project. Tickets are available for $6.00 in advance from Lake View Hardware Hank, Farmers State Bank, Iowa State Bank and the Lake View Library. Tickets at the door are $7.00.

View migrating wildlife at various Black Hawk Lake locations. Naturalists are available with viewing scopes at Town Bay from 1 to 4 pm.

Get up close to live, rehabilitated birds with Saving Our Avian Resources (SOAR) handlers at the open shelter in Speaker Park. The display will be from 1 to 4 p.m.

Watchable wildlife seminars will be given from 1 to 4 pm at the Lake View Historical Museum, 114 Crescent Park Drive. Carroll and Sac County Conservation Naturalists will present these free educational sessions.

Horse drawn wagon transportation by Merle Oxley to the festival sites is free during the Pelican Festival.

“Pelican Plunge” into the icy waters of Black Hawk Lake. This frigid frolic will take place at Crescent Beach at 4 pm. Register at City Hall or at the beach the day of event at 3:30 pm. Plungers must be age 14 or over. The plunge benefits Autism Speaks and another new summer event , the Stone Pier Summer Concert Series.

Cost to participate is $25 and includes an “I Took the Pelican Plunge” t-shirt. Don’t want to plunge? You can still help the cause. Be a “Pelican Plunge Pledger.” Those pledging $20.00 will receive an “I Pledged the Pelican Plunge” t-shirt.

Mayor Westergaard will take the Plunge if $500 is pledged for him. Fundraising is going well, but we still need more pledges for the Mayor!! E-mail your pledge to lvcity@iowatelecom.net or contribute the day of the event.

We hope to see you this Sunday at Pelican Fest!
