Velma P. Simpson, age 96 of Sac City, IA, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City, IA.
Velma P. Downs was born to parents Jerry and Roberta (Gibson) Downs on October 6, 1914, in Sac City, IA. She attended Early Consolidated Schools and furthered her education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA.
She was married to Dale O. Simpson on February 5, 1937, in Sac City. They were blessed with two children: Richard and Sandra.
Velma worked hard to make a loving home for her family. She also worked outside the home doing office work for Loring Hospital and other businesses in Sac City. She particularly enjoyed her work in admissions at Loring Hospital. Velma and Dale were members of the Sac County Saddle Club and enjoyed horse back riding, camping, and attending the Baptist Church. She will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son Richard Simpson, his wife Janet and daughter Emily. Richard and Janet live in Lenexa, KS. Velma was preceded in death by her husband Dale; her daughter Sandra; her parents Jerry and Roberta Downs; and sister Bernadine Goodnow.
