Robert Charlie Paeper, age 95, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2010 at Cherokee Villa Nursing Home in Cherokee, Iowa.
Robert was born on December 14, 1914, on a farm in Douglas Township, Sac County, Iowa to Roy and Julia (Carter) Paeper. He attended Douglas Township School No. 5 and Newell High School. Robert was baptized as a young lad and joined the Methodist Church in Newell. He transferred his membership to Nemaha in 1936 then to the United Methodist Church in Sac City in March 1975. He was united in marriage to Hazel Robinson December 9, 1941.
Robert served in the United States Army from January 13, 1943 to February 14, 1946 during World War II in the European Theater, Philippines and Japan. After the war, he farmed in the Nemaha and Sac City area, retiring March 25, 1985 and moving to a home in Sac City.
He had been a Lay Speaker in the Methodist Church since October 1949. He taught the adult Sunday school class at the Nemaha Methodist Church and also at Sac City and served many years on the Administrative Board in both churches. He was a member of the Sac City American Legion and Chaplain at the Sac City Senior Citizens Center.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Hazel Paeper; sons Everett (Becky) Paeper of Alta, Russell (Lola) Paeper of Cherokee, and Gale Paeper of San Bernardino, CA; five grandchildren: Jill (Eric) Myers of Cherokee, Mark (Sue) Paeper of Ankeny, Steve (Sonia) Paeper of Centennial, CO, Dan (and special friend Taya Clapper) Paeper of Chicago, and Leslie (Brett) McCord of Aurora, CO; great-grandchildren: Kyler and Cheyenne Paeper, Maylea and Alexxas McCord, Samantha and Emma Myers, and Raina and Hayley Paeper; extended family members and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law Leona and Jim Cowan; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Wayne and Mildred Robinson.
