Passed Away - Karen (Wallerstedt) Flink




Karen (Wallerstedt) Flink, age 74, of Ida Grove and formerly of Sac City, Iowa, died Sunday, September 5, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 9, 2010, at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Sac City, with Pastor Jess Thomason officiating. Burial will be in Ferguson Cemetery, Lake View, Iowa. Friends may call at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Sac City on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m., with the family present from 6-8 p.m.

Born October 30, 1935, in Sac City, Iowa, Karen Ellen (Wallerstedt) Flink was the daughter of Russell and Ruby (Wellington) Wallerstedt. She grew up and received her education in Sac City.

On July 12, 1954, Karen was united in marriage to Kenny Flink in Lake View, Iowa. The couple lived in Lake View for several years until Kenny's work took them to numerous locations throughout the United States. They returned to Iowa in 1970, where they made their home in Wall Lake until moving to Ida Grove in 1985. Karen worked at the deli in Ida Grove for nearly ten years before retiring in 1997.

A member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Lake View, Karen enjoyed painting, reading, crossword puzzles, and crafts of any kind. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Kenny; three children, Jan Flink of Sac City, Paula Larson of Rockwell City, and Ellen (William) Tasler of Fort Dodge; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers, Bob Wallerstedt of Sac City, Tom (Sandy) Wallerstedt of Storm Lake, and Mark Wallerstedt of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Frank James Tasler; two brothers, Dick and Jim Wallerstedt; her step-father, Ernest Niles; a half-brother, Gordon Niles; and two sisters-in-law, Kay and Mavis Wallerstedt.
