Passed Away - Mae Gorman



Auburn – Mae Gorman, 90, died Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Carroll Health Center in Carroll. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 26th at the United Presbyterian Church in Auburn with Rev. Donald Gibson officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, Auburn.

Mae Gorman was born at Paton, Iowa on August 22, 1920 to Fred and Verla (Hatfield) Hoover. She graduated from Auburn High School in 1938. Mae taught in Sac and Calhoun County country schools. In 1940 she was married to Donald Davis and to this union three sons were born. Harold E. Gorman and Mae were married in 1950 and they had three children. Mae and Harold celebrated 57 years of married life together.

Mae enjoyed her family, traveling, playing cards, and watching wildlife. She joined the United Presbyterian Church in Auburn on April 6, 1949. She held many church offices and was also a Sunday School teacher.

Mae is survived by her sons, Earl (Sandy) Davis of Austin, MN, Jon (Lorrie) Davis of Fort Dodge, and Tom (Kathy) Gorman of Carroll; daughters, Kathy (Buck) Vonnahme of Carroll, and Karen (Craig) Poolman of Centerville; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Eileen Hoover of Carroll and Ruth Boaz of La Mesa, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Gorman; son, Larry; sisters, Aretha Hoover, Thelma Miller and Goldie Barto; brother, Francis Hoover; and brothers-in-law, Kenneth Miller, Floyd Barto, and John Boaz.
