Beryl Jeanette Long, age 88, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View, IA.

Beryl Jeanette Kirkendall was born March 1, 1923, in Crescent, IA, to Erman and Opal (Townsend) Kirkendall. She attended Lake View High School and graduated with the class of 1940. On December 31, 1940, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Long in Sac City, IA. To this union seven children were born: Janet, Janice, Rebecca, Vicki, Steven, Andrew, & Kara. Beryl and Kenneth made their home on the farm place in rural Lake View. Beryl was very active in the farming operations.

Beryl enjoyed cooking for her family, singing, playing the piano, and playing cards. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her family and cherished the time spent with them.

Beryl was a member of the Lakes United Methodist Church. She served in various capacities in the church including the Ladies Aide, the church choir, and running a stand for the Lake View Water Carnival. She was also a member of the Daughter’s of American Revolution.

She is survived by her children: Janet Dowling of Gainesville, FL, Janice (Bob) Huisenga of Sioux City, IA, Vicki (Joseph) Neppl of Wall Lake, IA, Kara (Jedd) Sherman of Red Oak, IA, and Steven (Deb) Long of Humboldt, IA; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends. Beryl was preceded in death by her husband: Kenneth; parents Erman and Opal; daughter Becky Presley; son Andrew Long; grandson Bryon Dowling; great-grandsons Gable Greder and Matthew Carstens; and brother George Kirkendall.
