Mary Elizabeth Sproul, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View, IA.

Mary Elizabeth Chambers was born October 29, 1914, in Beebeetown, IA, to Francis and Martha (Christiansen) Chambers. She attended Missouri Valley High School and graduated with the class of 1932. During her time at Missouri Valley High School, she received teachers training while completing her senior year of studies. She taught country school in a one-room schoolhouse, teaching all eight grades.

On June 18, 1938, she was united in marriage to Carl V. Sproul at her older sister’s home overlooking Storm Lake. Enjoying a marriage for over 72 years, they welcomed 2 children: Judith and John. She began work at Mid States Equipment. After leaving Mid States, Mary worked as a receptionist at Dr. Nichols Medical Clinic in Lake View.

Mary loved spending time with family and cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers and cooking. She was a member of Lakes United Methodist Church and was a member of the ladies aid group.

She is survived by her husband Carl; daughter Judith (Gerald) Reeves of Tucson, AZ and Lake View; brother William Chambers of Williamsburg, VA; grandchildren: Grant (Robin) Bullock of Crozet, VA; Eric (Heidi) Bullock of Rockford, IL; and Nicholas Bullock of Des Moines, IA; great-grandsons: Matthew, Daniel, Samuel and Benjamin; great-granddaughters: Jordan, Grace, Seven and Hannah; many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Mary was preceded in death by her parents: Francis and Martha; son John; brother Robert; sisters: Hazel, Mabel, Florence, and Margaret; and son-in-law Daniel Bullock.
