Sac County Recorder's office to lose ability to make passports

SAC CITY, IOWA - DECEMBER 28, 2010

According to Sac County Recorder Nancy Auen, the Department of State wants anyone with the ability to process a certified birth certificate to not have the ability to do a passport. Because Sac County is such a small county with a limited amount of personnel, both of the employees in the Recorder’s office participate in processing certificates of birth, which as of March 1, 2011 will disqualify them from making passports.

It is unknown at this time where the nearest qualifying location to get a passport will be. During the meeting the supervisors and the Recorder speculated that the US Post Office could take over the duty, but may not want to do so.

The Sac County Supervisors will consider options for segregation of birth certificate processing and passport processing at a future date.

Following are the documents to which the participants in the conversation refer.
