Merlin Stevenson, age 87, of Schaller, Iowa died Sunday, December 19, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Merlin Duane Stevenson was born August 19, 1923 at his grandparents’ house in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of Elgin and Edna (Leeds) Stevenson. Merlin graduated from Quimby High School in 1940.

On November 6, 1946, Merlin was united in marriage to Bernadette Eisenmenger at Immaculate Conception Church in Cherokee. Together, they were blessed with six children: Gary, Sharon, Dennis, David, Rosemary, and Kevin.

Merlin was a lifelong farmer in the Schaller area. He harvested his best and final crop this past fall. He was very active as a 4-H youth club leader in his earlier years. He frequently served as a lector at St. Joseph’s church. Merlin treasured his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Bernie Stevenson of Schaller, Iowa; children: Gary (Tracy) Stevenson of Pomona, California; Sharon (Stephen) Nervig of Springfield, Missouri; Dennis (Sherry) Stevenson of Ankeny, Iowa; David (Louise) Stevenson of Indianapolis, Indiana; Rosemary (Tom) Hughes of Grafton, Wisconsin; Kevin Stevenson of O’Neill, Nebraska; grandchildren: Matthew (Sara) Stevenson; Jialei and Jianan Guo; Mark (Anne) Nervig; Sara Nervig; Patrick Nervig; Becky and Jill Stevenson; Amanda Hughes; Rachael Hughes; Alexis Stevenson; great grandchildren: Jacob and Isabella Stevenson; Bobby, Jason, and Reese Weatherly; Eleanor and Sam Nervig; sisters-in-laws: Florence Stevenson of Galva, Iowa and Mildred Stevenson of Cherokee, Iowa; extended family and friends.

Merlin was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Garold and Theo Stevenson; and grandson, Jack Merlin Stevenson.
