Leonard Francis Heun, age 90, of Lake View, Iowa, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2010 at Loring Hospital in Sac City. He was born on April 23, 1920 at home in Pocahontas County, Iowa, to Norbert and Frances (Fox) Heun. Leonard was baptized as an infant in the Catholic Church in Clare, Iowa. He grew up near Clare where he attended country school and three years at Auburn High School in Auburn, Iowa.

On May 4, 1947, Leonard was united in marriage to Ione Dorothy Peters at the Lutheran Church in Lake View. Two sons were born to this union, Eugene and Thomas. They farmed near Lake View for many years, retiring in 1988.

Leonard loved being outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping. When the boys were younger they enjoyed traveling to several states. He was an avid fan of high school sports from 1964 through 1976. Special memories include a trip to Hawaii in 1975 and celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in 1997. Leonard also enjoyed playing cards, watching westerns on television and cracking walnuts to pass the time.

Survivors include his wife Ione; sons: Eugene and wife Joni of Lake View and Thomas and wife Jane of Jefferson; five grandchildren: Mitch Heun of Mankato, MN, Lori (Steve) Lochray of Ames, Adam Heun of Gowrie, Daniel Heun of Williston, ND, and Anne Heun of Madison, WI; great-granddaughter Kate Lochray; sisters: Kate Marcellus of Humboldt, Marge Fulcher of Morgan Hills, CA, and Eleanor Barton of Humboldt; sisters-in-law: Velma Mason of Marshalltown, Ruby Heun of Carroll, Nancy Heun of Sac City, and Iva May Heun of Louisiana; and many extended family members.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; sister Mary Baumunk; brothers: James, Howard, Ray, Emmet, Donald and Joseph; sisters-in-law Arlene and Ellen Heun; and brothers-in-law Robert Fulcher, Albert Marcellus, Jack Baumunk, and Earl Barton; and grandson Christopher Heun.
