Vernon E. Reiman, age 83, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away at his home on Thursday, October 7, 2010. Vern was born on May 16, 1927 in Halbur, Iowa the son of Ed and Christine (Bellinghausen) Reiman. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed in the Catholic Church in Halbur. He attended school in Halbur and lived in the Auburn area where his parents farmed.
On August 25, 1951, Vern was united in marriage to the love of his life, Elayne Mohr, at St. Joe, Iowa. This union was blessed with two children, Pat and Jim.
Vern loved farming, even after he retired, he continued to help on the farm, driving the combine or hauling grain to town with the tractor. He was a local seed corn salesman for many years. Vern enjoyed working with flowers, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved following their activities in school, especially going to their softball games and to the Iowa High School State Basketball games. He was an avid Cyclone basketball fan. He fondly remembered fishing trips to Canada with his brothers and going with his brothers to the Brewers and Cubs baseball game in Milwaukee. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Vern was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City, Knights of Columbus and Men’s Club.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Elayne Reiman; daughter Pat Irwin and husband Kirk of Chariton, Iowa; son Jim Reiman and Norma Weitzel-Wilkens of Sac City; brother Roy Reiman and wife Bobbi of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; sisters-in-law: Margaret Reiman of Ayrshire, Iowa, Geri Reiman of Greenfield, Wisconsin, and Marge Reiman of Carroll, Iowa; grandchildren: Clint Irwin of Chariton, Nicole Reiman and Brent Wilhelm of Sac City, Eric Reiman and wife Amanda of Minot, North Dakota, Melissa Weitzel and Aaron Girard of Sioux City, Iowa, Jamie Weitzel and Kara Wilkens both of Sac City; three great-grandchildren: Kailey, Mickael and Madalyn; many extended family members and a host of friends. Vern was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Al, Ray and Orv Reiman.
