Sac Community Center to start raiding demolition fund to keep doors open
SAC CITY, IOWA - AUGUST 23, 2010
by Curtis Bloes
For the 94% of you that are not members of the Sac Community Center, you should be aware that the August 23, 2010 Sac City Council agenda indicates that the director of the Sac Commuunity Center will be in to ask that the council start letting them use the demolition fund to to pay bills.
I don't know about you, but I find it very disturbing, given the ramifications of this move, that Sac City Mayor Barb Powell representing the city at the most recent Sac Community Center Board meeting didn’t even comment when this method of paying bills was suggested.
In TSN's three years of operation, the Community Center has never been in such dire straights that it had to start borrowing from the demolition fund to pay bills. This is probably because it has artificially bouyed itself against this eventuality by borrowing from the designated projects donations fund which is now bankrupt.
The establishment and maintenance of the demolition fund guarantees that should the Sac Community Center fail, the taxpayers will not have to foot the entire bill for the building's removal.
Following is the 28E agreement with the City of Sac City and East Sac County School with the portion that pertains highlighted.
