Funeral Service: 11:00 am, Thursday, August 19, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church in Sac City.
Interment: following the service August 19, 2010 at Oakland Cemetery in Sac City.
Helen Goodwin Powers, age 99, of Omaha, Nebraska, formerly of Sac City and Hubbard, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2010, at Fountain View Senior Living Community in Omaha.
Helen was born on April 20, 1911 to John and Jennie (Schoneboom) Gerken at Herring, Iowa. She attended schools in Herring, Nickerson, Nebraska and Lake View, Iowa.
On November 29, 1930, Helen was united in marriage to Cliff Goodwin at Fort Dodge, Iowa. They were blessed with a son, Jack, and two daughters, Patricia and Peggy. They made their home in Sac City. Helen was a loving and caring wife and mother, who cherished her family and treasured her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After Cliff passed away she married Elmer Bunte. She found love again after Elmer passed away and was united in marriage to Oral Powers. Helen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sac City.
Survivors include her son Jack Goodwin of New Rochelle, NY; daughter Peggy (Rodney) Johnson of Omaha, NE; brother Robert (Phyllis) Gerken of Waterloo, IA; sister Ethel (Marvin) Wiley of Sac City; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and extended family members.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Cliff Goodwin, Elmer Bunte, and Oral Powers; daughter Patricia (Donald) Day; sisters: Gertrude Wiebers, Nellie Young, Martha Wise, Lydia Dietrich, and Sophia Marshall; brothers: Jack, Boyk, Fike, and Kenny Gerken; and step-children: Myrna Freeman, Jerry Goodwin and Kenny Goodwin.
