Frank Strain Named Iowan of the Day
(Blue Ribbon Foundation Press Release)
DES MOINES, IA The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Frank Strain of Sac City as an Iowan of the Day for the 2010 Iowa State Fair.
"Frank is a reliable, 'behind the scenes' kind of guy. He doesn't hesitate to do what needs to be done. He has a heart of compassion, a tireless spirit of volunteerism, and is full of integrity," said Allison Strain, his nominator and daughter.
An employee at the Iowa State Bank in Sac City for 49 years, Frank's expertise in his field extends further than the bank. Frank generously volunteers his time for many organizations in the community, including Kiwanis Club, the Howard Center, the Sac Community School Board, the American Legion and Loring Hospital. He even generously donates his blood. Frank has been recognized for giving over 10 gallons of his own blood in his lifetime. An asset in fundraising for different organizations in the community, he is also the bicycle helmet safety demonstrator at the local elementary school. Frank's involvement in his community makes him as a shining star deserving of recognition.
Frank's day of recognition will be Friday, August 20 at the Iowa State Fair. Along with a one night's stay at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott, Frank will receive a cash prize, grandstand tickets, one year subscriptions to the Iowan and Iowa Gardening magazines, and special use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart. Frank will also receive a special introduction at 2:15 p.m. August 20 on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage.
Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's shining stars. The program continues to honor individuals from across the state each year who have made a difference in others' lives while upholding characteristics associated with Iowa-dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.
The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated over $80 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
