Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Presbyterian Church of Lytton.
Interment: Thursday July 22, 2010 at Cedar Cemetery, Lytton.


Ronald Cleland, age 73, of Lytton, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, Iowa.


Ronald Eugene Cleland was born at home in rural Lytton, on April 10, 1937 to parents Eugene and Maxine (Titus) Cleland. He was a life-long Lytton area resident and attended Lytton Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1957. Ronald entered the service with the Sac City Army Reserves in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1963.


Ronald met his lifelong companion in Sue Bell. They were married at the First Presbyterian Church in Sac City, Iowa on September 25, 1960 and were blessed with four children: Cindy, Cathy, Christy and Eugene, and foster son Steve.


He was a long-time farmer in the Lytton area and retired in 2004. Over the years, he delivered the Sunday newspaper to households in the Fonda area. Ronald enjoyed fishing, selling chicken eggs, riding his antique tractors, and was an avid animal lover. Ronald made many friends and special memories playing various card games with his neighbors. He will be truly missed by those who knew and loved him.


Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Cindy (Robbie) Barker of Jolley, IA, Cathy (Randy) Smith of Fonda, IA, Christy (Scott) Fister of Lytton, IA; and Eugene (Melanie) Cleland of Jackson, MN, foster son: Steve (Barb) Niehaus of Fonda, IA; grandchildren: Amanda (Jon) Cates of Knoke, IA, Jeff Niehaus of Lytton, IA, Greg, Josh, Kayla, and Becca Smith of Fonda, IA, Alex, Nicholas, and Samantha Fister, of Lytton, IA, Desirae and Destany Cleland of Jackson, MN; foster grandchildren: Emma and Brittany Niehaus of Fonda, IA; great grandchildren: Abrey, Kinnick, and Louden Cates of Knoke, IA; many extended family members and friends. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; wife Sue Cleland; granddaughter Dakota Cleland; and parents-in-law Roy and Margaret Bell.
