No surprises in Sac Community Center 28E agreement
SAC CITY, IOWA – JUNE 21, 2010
The following 28E agreement is the same agreement to continue to provide the Sac Community Center, (misidentified in this draft as the Sac Community Recreation Center) with $15,000 per year. Previously, the school was considering two agreements per year for $7,500.00.
This agreement is on the June 28, 2010 Sac City Council agenda.
Sac Board Director Huser, as a former Sac Community Center board member emphasized the importance of notifying the center when the school intends to use the facilities.
Sac Board President Phillips revealed the next political card the “Have the county school pay more to support the Sac City Community Center” will put on the stack to pressure the school to up their contribution at some point in the future. To wit: They will pressure the school boards to require Sac Elementary and Middle School children to use the cardio equipment at the community center in reaction to the “Healthy Children’s Act”. (30 minutes of activity per day, minimum of 120 minutes of activity per week in those weeks totaling 5 days.)
On June 17, 2010 the Sac Community Center tasked those responsible for their website with drafting a new mission statement that de-emphasizes recreation since the center no longer considers itself a health and recreation center, but instead a “Community Center.”

The Sac Community Center Board formally dropped the word “Recreation” from their name in late 2009.
