East Sac County Middle School to get greenhouse up and running again, sidewalk to the southwest parking lot

SAC CITY, IOWA – JUNE 21, 2010

Summary of building and grounds committee discussions for board to consider:
1. Cleaning the walls and touching up the ceiling of the auditorium
2. Parking lot of the middle school.
3. Basketball court at Middle School.
4. Installation of sidewalk across berm at elementary school.
5. Sidewalk at Middle School
6. Restoration of greenhouse at the middle school.
- estimated to need 15K to 20K worth of work.
7. Sewer at alternative school.
- Continuing problems with the sewer.
- This item may call for special meeting between plumbers, city to hammer out.
- City sewer probably not deep enough, probably not going to get dug up and reburied.
8. Grease trap at elementary school.
9. Roof at the Sac Elementary School.


10. The board is on board with getting quotes for auditorium.
11. The board is split on doing asphalt at the southwest parking at the middle school, with Phillips and Wilhelm calling it a low priority. On the question of expanding, Wilhelm seems supportive.
12. The board is in favor of renovating the greenhouse.
- ISU Extension Master Gardeners will participate.
- The type of instruction will be more exploratory as opposed to the Lake View greenhouse which has year round plants.
- There is a bid for the shell for $11,000ish.

- It’s something the kids can use and something the community’s been talking about for a long time.
-13. Wilhelm 50/50 on basketball court.
- Phillips seems to agree.
- Sands thinks it’s been put off for 35 years and wants to move immediately.
- Phillips wants to wait to see how much the roof will cost. Wilhelm confirms that basketball court is used a lot by the community.
14. On motion Fuller and Sons get the contract to fill in parking lot triangle tat the Sac Elementary school.
15. On motion, the greenhouse renovation will be pursued.
16. Wilhelm will continue to look into sewer at the alternative school.


17. Sands wants to see a fund started for buying proper replacement curtains for the auditorium stage.
- This will be on the agenda at the July meeting.
- Superintendant directed to get quotes.
18. Sidewalks for middle school, including new sidewalk to go to parking at middle school and new sidewalk over berm at the elementary school moving forward.
