Leon David Honeck, age 83, of Storm Lake, Iowa and formerly of Early, Iowa, died March 31, 2010 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Leon David Honeck was born December 21, 1926 in State Center, Iowa, the son of Fred and Orpha (German) Honeck. Dave was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith as a child. Growing up, Dave attended State Center High School.

Following high school, on January 25, 1945, Dave joined the United Sates Army and was stationed in the Philippine Islands and Japan serving during World War II. Dave was honorably discharged on November 15, 1946.

After returning from the service, Dave furthered his education at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa where he received his Bachelor’s Degree and Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa where he earned his Master’s Degree.

On March 25, 1956, Dave was united in marriage to Frieda Pagel in State Center, Iowa. Together they raised one son, David.

Dave was a member of the American Legion and the Lions Club. He was a devoted school teacher until 1956 and then began farming until his retirement in 1991. In 2001, Dave and Frieda moved to Storm Lake, Iowa where they made their home. Dave enjoyed his hobby of stained glass and treasured spending time with his wife and son.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Frieda Honeck of Storm Lake, Iowa; his son, David Honeck of Early, Iowa; nieces; nephews; extended family and friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Orpha; three brothers: Cecil, Russ and Floyd.
