Consolidation has been a major topic among communities lately, so the student council decided to poll the high school students to see what their opinions were. When students were asked their opinion on whether or not we should consolidate, the majority of the students voted yes. 184 students voted yes, and 47 students voted no. Three students were undecided.
We asked the students to comment on why they think we should consolidate. Many students commented that there are more college courses offered with the schools together. East Sac County now offers 28 college courses, which adds up to a total of 71 college credits that students could earn while in school. Other than college courses, the students also stated that they liked the larger variety of courses that are offered to them now. Many students have more friends now than they did when separated. Students were happy that they were given the chance to meet new people from the other district and gain new friendships during the last few years.
Comments from the students who voted against consolidation ranged from them not liking school in general, not liking the drive, and not liking sports being 2A.
The student body has a strong voice, but doesn’t always get to be heard. Many shared honest and great thoughts about consolidation and how the schools being brought together have benefited them. This is meant to share the students’ opinion with the public, and let their voices be heard.
To close, one student’s comment stuck out over all others which was, “This is what we want. This is what is best. We love this school. We are East Sac.”
