Transformer at Wall Lake substation going bad, may lead to long term upgrade
WAL LAKE, IOWA – AUGUST 23, 2010
1. The mayor is hoping that lightning hit the transformer in question so insurance will cover it.
2. Some cities give away old transformers as long as those receiving it transport it.
- This could leave the town with an extra on, should the one that went bad be repairable.
-- The city was supposed to have an extra one on hand but the council was cutting back on money at the point it was to be obtained.
3. When the city shuts down it will hopefully be for no more than 6 hours.
- They are going to try to plan to do it on a Sunday afternoon.
4. It’s expensive, (over a million dollars,) but the council may be interested in upgrading over a ten year period. This is purely speculative right now and will depend on cost.
- a representative from NNPP can come in and do a system wide audit and set up a ten year plan.
--“We’re just dodging bullets right now”
5. Council wants bonding capacity checked over to see how they are sitting for a possible ten year action.
6. There was a small outage during farm fest.
